David J. Winthers is a lifelong resident of DuPage County having graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1974 and Wheaton College in 1977. David then attended The John Marshall Law School, earning a Juris Doctorate degree in 1980. For the past 35 years, David has represented a wide variety of clients, concentrating in business and contract law, family law, estate planning, as well as commercial and residential real estate. By combining a diverse practice and a career which has spanned four decades, David brings a unique perspective to individual and corporate clients, assisting in creative solutions to legal problems. His extensive background in multiple practice areas allows for in-depth analysis of legal issues. David’s practical approach recognizes that our current legal environment requires a lawyer who can appreciate how different areas of law impact upon a single legal matter. A divorce often involves questions surrounding business, real estate, estate planning and contracts. Sometimes preparing a Will or other estate plan can require family law considerations along with an understanding of business succession planning. David’s extensive background in multiple practice areas has helped him provide sound legal advice to his clients for many years.
David is an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association and has previously served as an assemblyman for the 18th Judicial Circuit. In addition, he is a member of the DuPage County Bar Association and a recipient of the Board of Director’s Award for outstanding service. He has previously served as a committee chair on many Bar Association committees; two terms as a member of the Association’s Board of Directors; and General Counsel from 2005-2006. David and his wife, Linda, have two adult sons and attend Community Fellowship Church in West Chicago, Illinois. David also volunteers his musical talents to the DuPage County Bar Association’s annual Judges’ Night Variety Show which raises awareness and much-needed money for legal aid.
